Subscription System Announcement
Thank you for your continuing use and support of Teachionary.
During 1996-2004, Teachionary was a charitable, free service developed
and maintained by Sprex, Inc. Teachionary has been a great, amazing,
fun, fascinating, satisfying, but spare-time, project for Sprex.
However, keeping Teachionary free has limited the resources available
to develop Teachionary in the ways we'd like to.
So we have decided to build upon Teachionary's success, committing
ourselves to do more: to develop more languages and more vocabulary,
to create more neat learning tools to help you learn more and keep at
it longer while having more fun!
These benefits need work, and work of course must be paid for, not to
mention our overhead costs. So we have also decided to convert
Teachionary into a subscription service to support our work.
Teachionary continues to operate in the same way, except that free
access is limited to a threshold of activity, while registered
subscribers have unlimited access.
> If I pay for more teachionary, are there more or expanded categories?
Good question! Various word-sets are listed in each Study Path, and
the "Everything" path lists all the categories. Without subscribing,
you can pick out up to seven sets that you want to learn, without
charge, and you can come back to study them over time if you wish.
However, only a current subscription will let you work on the other
categories beyond the seven you first visited. Also, since some
languages have more materials than others, and since some are harder
to learn otherwise, the prices aren't all the same.
The great thing about Teachionary users is that they are regular
users. We find people coming back here over and over, because it
really helps you learn and retain knowledge that is useful and
empowering.
Typical Teachionary users use it many times for a few months while
studying a language in school or visiting a foreign country or getting
to know a speaker of another language.
If you are typical user, then the total subscription cost to you will
be less than a dictionary or a few magazines in the
language you're learning.
During the transition to a full subscription service, Sprex is now
offering a discounted subscription plan.
Contributions for development on particular languages are also
solicited, if you would like to encourage more rapid progress on your
language of choice. See Teachionary
Development Accounts for how to earmark contributions to
development on a specific language.
Subscription
fees go into the general fund for Teachionary overhead
and development. We spend that money on languages and
development projects that we prioritize ourselves. Teachionary
Development Account contributions, on the other hand, are earmarked to
development work on a specific language, and we promise to spend those
contributions on the projects they are earmarked for. So through the
latter you can directly control the direction of Teachionary
development.
We appreciate your support and all the support that the community has
offered us in the past. We look forward to the improvements
we're anticipating in the next year or two.
